Episode 1: Beachin’ Kitchens

Did somebody say budget already? Well, we did! We moved our kitchen completely from one side of the house to the opposite. Then we added and removed windows all over. But that's the tough stuff. Let's start from the beginning.

We find out that the audacious Alison Victoria is mentoring us through this competition and soon after, we are blindfolded, competing for the first choice on which house we are renovating. You'll have to tune in to see how that challenge turned out, but we got the 2 story house. Did I mention these houses are all on stilts? So essentially we got 3 stories. On average, I climbed 20 flights during build days. And my hands were never empty!

This beach house is fully equipped with wood paneling throughout, a bit of weather damage from being on the beach, and some critters. Thankfully, the critters were passed their shelf life and weren't a threat to anyone.

After some heavy-duty demo, we got to work on laying floors, installing cabinets, and a few custom builds. My favorite parts of the kitchen are the beams, my bench build, the countertops, the custom HUGE island with woven pendants and especially the faux stone wall from Barron Designs. The kitchen to me had the perfect coastal beach house feel and is ready for entertaining and more.

Secrets Reveal

  • The Butcher Block island was made out of 3 pieces of butcher block that we joined together with biscuits and glue! (No, not those types of biscuits)

  • The shelves in the kitchen were made from remnants of the butcher block

  • The sink was originally an overmount that the AMAZING countertop company modified to be an undermount. It fit perfectly!

Check out more of my kitchen favorites here. You may love them in your space too!

Next up is the primary bedroom!

Tune in every Monday starting June 3rd at 9pm on HGTV to see us makeover an entire house and compete for a $50,000 cash prize against 2 other teams of DIYers. You can stream all episodes on Max the next day.
